Waiting forever

Once a long time ago a girl lived with her family, the girl was about six and she had no siblings.
One day, her father, who owned a small business died after being run over by a carriage.
The next day, the small business went bankrupt, and the girl and her mother went into debt.
The girl's mother worked a lot of jobs in order to keep out of the water, but every night's dinner was small.

One night, when the girl and her mother had naught but water for supper, a gentleman came to the door.
The gentleman was very polite, and spoke only kind words, the girl liked him, but her mother said that he was there to take the house away.
Now the girl and her mother had nowhere to live, and the girl's mother decided on a plan.

The girl asked her mother about her elightened look, and the mother asked the girl to wait there while she went to town, which was only a few minutes away.
The girl agreed to wait for her mother and the mother left as the girl watched her dissapear over the horizon.
The girl felt lonely, but kept a grin on her face.

One year passed and the girl was still waiting in the same spot her mother had left her, still with a wide grin on her face.
A traveller stopped to ask who she was waiting for.
The girl, still with a grin on her face,told the traveller she was waiting for her mommy.
The traveller had noticed how long she was waiting and told the girl that her mother had abandoned her, and was long gone.
The girl loudly exclaimed that her mommy would never do such a thing, and so the traveller went on his way.

Ninety nine years had passed and the young girl had turned into a frail and weak old woman who struggled to breathe properly.
The old woman was still smiling and waiting for her mother.
Once again, a young female traveller stopped to say hello, and asked who the old woman was waiting for.
The old woman said she was waiting for her mother, and so the traveller asked for her mother's name.
As the old woman spoke her mother's name, the travellers face lit up with shock, and she softly told the old woman that her mother had died.
The old woman was shocked when the traveller took her to a nearby graveyard and showed her a grave that said her mother's name, and that she had died one hundred years ago after being hit by a carriage, the same day she left for town.

The old woman collapsed in tears over her mother's passing, and as she lay there, stricken with grief, her heart stopped.

The old woman had died of a broken heart
